What is TRE?

TRE® (Tension and Trauma Release Exercises) is a set of stress relieving exercises. The aim of TRE® is to get rid of tension from the body and bring it back into balance, so that all the systems in the body are working in harmony.

These innovative exercises were created by Dr. David Berceli to safely activate a natural reflex mechanism of shaking that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.

Yes, you read that right, we actually get the body to shake!

Once you have learnt the exercises, they become an important self help tool that you can practice on your own to help deal with stress and tension.

A TRE® session is not just about learning how to do the exercises so that your body shakes, that is the easy part. It is also about how not to do the exercises, it’s about the breaths and pauses in between as well as the awareness of the movement. It’s learning to be fully in the body, and being ok with that. It’s an experience of getting to know the self.

Each time you do the exercises it is a unique experience. Even if you have experienced TRE® before, you are encouraged to come to the session with a curiosity, and expectation of just experiencing the body in that moment with awareness of just the way it is.

What happens in a TRE® session?

In a one-to-one TRE session you will learn about self regulation to help you be aware of your body and emotions throughout the session. You will then be guided and supported through the exercises to help you optimise your experience. These exercises initiate your body’s own self healing tremor. After the exercises and the tremoring, there is a period of relaxation to help your body integrate the experience. At the end of the session most clients report feeling at peace, grounded and relaxed.

Are the sessions online or in person?
